COOK AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

WARNING: These recipes are generally meant for grad students to conserve time...Working and Family people are advised not to try these...

NUMBER 1: LENTIL BASED SPINACH CURRY
(american version of pappu keerai)

Prepartion Time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes ( out of 1440 minutes available per day)
Quantity: 4-5 people ( considering the appetite of an avg. grad student)

What do you need: (available at walmart or at friends apts)
Cooker - 1 (medium size)
Spinach - 1 packet(frozen)
Grated Coconut - 1 cup (frozen)
Toor/Moong dhall - 1 cup
Green Chilli - 4/5 depending on your taste buds
Sambar powder - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Add Salt to taste

How to cook:
1. Add the defrosted spinach and dhall in the cooker.
2. Add the coconut, chilli(cut into small pieces), sambar powder, turmeric powder and cumin seeds along with it.
3. Pour 3.5 to 4 cups of water ( 2 for dhall and 1.5/2 for spinach)
4. Close the lid and cook it for 4-5 whistles.

After the spinach is cooked, fry mustard seeds and curry leaves and mix it with the curry.

IMPROVEMENT:
  • You can replace the green chilli with 1 or 2 tbsp of pepper/ pepper powder if you want to try a different taste.
  • You can add french cut beans or cauliflower or onions with the spinach.

I know that this recipe is not something new or innovative. But there might be someone who doesn't even heard abt this. I would be more than happy if that person tries and likes it. This post is just for reference purpose.

OUT OF BOX

I just went through my blog a week ago and found that it seems to look stereo typed....most of my previous blogs were kavidhais and mokkaiss ....so i thought i cud change it to something interesting and funny too....different and intersting....... so u cud expect more blogs from me....in near future...so here we go....with variety of topics....with new focus.....and lets see how welll i carry it through time....my next blog wud be on samayal....i mean its about the recipes which i learnt from ppl arnd me....i heard this somewhere....the success of cooking is not in the taste of food but to inspire others to cook.....so here i am ...trying to inspire ppl to cook....since my food is not tasty enough :p......hehe....cooking is wht i found tht am more interested in and became my new hobby........credits goes to the "old munk"(identity-confidential :p)....he not only cooks well but also inspired me... a true winner...i say...

So lets buckle up....the ride is gonna start sooon.........!!
